The
Little Refugee by Anh Do and Suzanne Do tells a
story of Anh Do’s journey from Vietnam after the Vietnam War. He and his family
left their country by fishing boat. They experienced extreme heat, storms,
hunger, thirst, attack, loneliness and fear before they reached Australia.
a) How might you feel if you were Anh Do? Refer to a part of the
story read in podcast one and discuss how you would feel in this situation and
why? For
example: I would feel unsafe travelling on a boat from one country to another
because I’m scared of water and cannot swim. I wouldn’t want anything to happen
to the boat while I was at sea.
b) List 5 things that you would take with you if you had to
leave Australia and never return.

Brayden: Anh's story is very troubling Brayden, but how might you feel in Anh's situation?
Emma: Great start. Remember your leaving the country and never returning. Anh left with nothing but the clothes on his back. You have some good examples of human needs.
Jake: Excellent response Jake, considering your time limit. I agree, Vietnam would be an unsafe place according to Anh's story. What were some other examples that make Vietnam an unsafe place compared to Australia?
Jaedan: That would be quite a scary experience. You have selected some important items that you would take with you. Selecting a toy is interesting. What toy would you take and why?

If i was Anh do i would be scared all i would want to do is be in my room hiding with my book trying to get my mind off things.

Great responses Year 3 kids. I can see a lot of common ideas. Food water and clothes seem to be very common.
